-------------------------------------------------------- HOYS 2011 News just in!!!! Tracy Parker from North Devon, one of our SWAWPCS longstanding members, has just rung to say a pony she bred and sold last year at the Fayre Oaks Sale has just taken SUPREME PONY of the SHOW at HOYS!!! Crystal Vision a 10 year old Section B Mare , bred by Tracy before her current prefix; has gone Supreme of Show tonight 9th October 2011. Obviously Tracy is super thrilled and over the moon for her new owners!!
Supreme Pony of the Year 2011 Crystal Vision ridden by
Harriet Dennison. A message from Vicki Stevens has given us extra "South Westers" news!! Vicki's section B stallion Soudley Taliesin had 5 there and 4 in the top 10 in there classes!! And then supreme, so in detail a 1st ,and in the same class Annandale Darcy was 3rd. Annandale Motivator 10th in 13hh and Annandale Phoenix was 7th in the lead rein SHP!!! RC In the 122cm Show Hunter Pony of the Year class SWA bred ponies were to the fore. Tracy Parker bred Crystal Vision who was by Soudley Taliesen and out of Millcroft Cascade, now owned by Shirley Dennision won the class with Daukester Warleigh of Simon bred by Keith Poulter second and Annandale Darcy third bred by Vicky Stephens. Another connection to the SWA was in sixth place Gigman All That Jazz who used to be owned by Jackie Wilson. Jacky showed Jazz very successfully in youngstock classes. Crystal Vision was not content to winning the class but went on to be Show Hunter of the Year and that to crown her success was HOYS Supreme Pony of the Year. What an achievement! Another pony bred by a SWA member was Cherrytop Imperial Starlight bred by Helen and Julie Woolley, who was third in the Lead Rein Pony of the Year class. J H. --------------------- Many congratulations to John & Maggie Carter whose homebred Section B stallion, Millcroft Iska Roc was second at HOYS, beating his sire Millcroft Ghost. Ridden by Sam Roberts Iska Roc was also 9th at HOYS in the WHP. SWAWPCS Late Medal Show 4th Sep 2011 A great day was had by all the competitors at our Late Medal Show held down at the Royal Cornwall Showground. Strong classes were represented in the In hand Section A's and B's with lighter entries in the C's and D's. Nevertheless competitors entered into the spirit of the show and pulled out all the stops to win the prestigious WPCS bronze medals on offer for each section. We are very grateful to Kathy and Jo Shiels from the Dukeshill Stud at Builth in Wales who had a long and exhausting day judging our quality ponies from the South West. Also Jessica Sayers who judged our Veterans, Young Handlers Fun and BSPS Bright Stars classes; not forgetting Mr MA Sheen who came all the way over from the Isle of Wight to Judge our NPS ridden qualifier classes. We must not forget Alison Fry the secretary and all the organisers and helpers on the day who have spent many many hours doing all that is necessary to bring you all a great show. Supreme Champion of the Show was Rob and Karen Curtis's Bodwenarth Candyman ridden by his highly successful young rider Lilian Skyrme from Penryn. Reserve Supreme was Kate and Paul Lutey's beautiful yearling cob filly, Kensa Desert Rose. Full results now on Show results and News page. Some pics of the day. -------------------------------- The National Welsh and Part Bred Show 14th August 2011 Another very well supported show from the WPCS with champions from all over the UK converging on the Three Counties Showground at Malvern this w/e. It appears that since its popular move to the Malvern's, the show has gained considerable support with the rings full of competitors. The section A Brynsineon Championship in hand class was one of the biggest and best quality classes ever, according to many watching around the ringside. Full results will be available soon. ----------------------------------- Young Judges A contingent of three Swawpcs Young Judges travelled up to Malvern to compete in the WPCS Young Judges Competition which was held as always the day before the main National Welsh show in the afternoon. Four ponies were presented to them and shown as a class. The Young Judges were then asked to judge the class and meet the two wpcs judges afterwards to be questioned on there decisions. Later at an award ceremony the age group winners were presented with a bronze medal each. We were delighted to see Georgia Wildgoose from Mylor in Cornwall win her group and receive a bronze medal!! Well done also to Jenna Chamberlain from Falmouth and Zoe Skyrme from Penryn for competing too. The competition was intense with the senior group taking the top awards. The Young judges overall winner was Ben Orchard from the Southern Counties, the winner of the 19 - 21 year old section. Catrin Reed who won the 13 - 18 year old section and Ceredigion won the Association prize with Lowri Reed, Richard & Tomos Jones (Menai). We notice that this year they had accepted competitors other than those nominated by Associations that had been nominated by a stud.
------------------------------- The International Welsh Pony and Cob Society Show Royal Welsh Showground Builth On behalf of the Swawpcs I would like to congratulate many of our South Western members who helped make this fabulous show such a great success!! Many of our local members help Judge, steward and supported the stewards; acted as messengers and Catalogue sellers, they ran between the rings with results and paperwork, checked the Lorries for any ponies in distress and involved themselves with numerous other jobs. Well done!!! Thank you also for all the stalwart work put in over the last two years by everyone else involved in the show. Spot the SW members below!
As many of you already know the event was a tremendous success with over 40 international entries and over 1000 entries in total. When you consider the current financial squeeze the entries were amazing. The show was a two day event with the ridden’s taking up the first day and the in hands the second. An international judge was paired with a UK one in each class. Watching interviews on S4C it was apparent that many of the judges were in agreement with there choice of winners from the start. The way of judging varied from the norm in that the ridden ponies were watched perform by both judges ,at the same time ,both in the show and then conformation . Observing initially we thought it would take a lot longer but it wasn’t so bad. Also in the championships all the judges were asked to show there points in a card system! Thought we were watching come dancing for a minute!! But it went OK and the champs were pulled forward. A great show and well worth competing in, but the cost of going abroad to do so in the next one would make one think twice! So well done the international competitors that made it all the way to Builth. TREVARTH STUD CELEBRATORY OPEN DAY SUNDAY 27 JUNE 2010 1970 – 2010 Email: klutey@btinternet.com www.trevarthstud.com What a fabulous day was had by us all!! A big crowd of cob enthusiasts arrived from near and far in glorious weather !! We were taken around by Jo, Tony, Kate and Paul and what seemed like many other helping family members! The cob stallions and mares were fabulous and in there super summer condition. Likewise the section A's and they were all in show condition!! Pasties and tea abounded and then it was off to see a selection of lovely ridden and in hand cobs in the show field including the highly successful Trevarth Galahad, property of Jean McNaughton and John Cooper;to be followed up by the cream of the Cornish BDS driving ponies who had had there Cornish show in an adjoining field previously. This was then capped with a fascinating and entertaining display by the Rexon show team from Devon featuring the well known stallion Trevarth Black Lad. The day was a great example to everyone of the versatility of the Welsh cob and a great tribute to the 40 years of Welsh pony breeding from Jo and Tony Lutey and family. The Trevarth ponies and cobs have been exported to many parts of the world. Thank you for letting us share your day with you. RC More pics to follow.

Lord Haldon Hotel, Dunchideock, Nr Exeter, Devon Nearly 80 members their friends and family gathered at The Lord Haldon Hotel for the presentation of the In Hand and Performance Competition 2009 Awards. We welcomed the WPCS President Will Lloyd and his wife Wendy of the famous Geler Stud of Welsh Cobs. Will presented the rosettes and trophies to all the winners. The Christmas lunch was an extra special occasion this year as the Association was celebrating it’s 40th Anniversary. Then Stewart and Annie Franklin of the Sarum Stud very kindly sponsored a pre meal drink from the bar and Jo Rodd’s mother had baked a special anniversary cake for us . Everyone enjoyed the meal which was the usual high standard from the Lord Haldon. After the lunch an auction was held for a ‘Millcroft’ turkey kindly donated by John & Maggie Carter, the successful bidder was Stewart Franklin. The second item to be auctioned was a hamper of Christmas Fayre which was bought by Wendy Lloyd. The special anniversary cake was then cut jointly by Will, Wendy and Hazel Lucas. Hazel was one of the original founding members and was on the committee for many years running several events and was also Show Secretary. The cake was delicious, not a heavy fruit cake but a nice light chocolate cake with I am told had yoghurt in it. We then drew the raffle with the top prize being another Christmas hamper. Many thanks to all the members who donated a prize. Everyone enjoyed the day and the children certainly did as they were having a great game amongst themselves playing with the anniversary balloons. It was a lovely and relaxing day to meet and chat with other members. Our thanks go to all those who helped to make the day extra special. J.H. Swawpcs FOAL SHOW Conquest centre Taunton Nov 1st for FULL RESULTS of the FOAL SHOW PLEASE CLICK HERE! The foal show yesterday was a great success. Despite the awful start to the day with the wind and rain exhibitors still came from Herefordshire, Worcestershire and East Dorset! The In Hand Champion was Carole Morbey’s Section C yearling colt Ridgehill Rhys, bred by Kevin Howdle and Steve Patch. Reserve was the Section A colt Dargale Henri, shown by Adam Fletcher and owned and bred by Mr & Mrs Jeffries. Henri was sent to Hay on Wye sale but there was not even a bid for him so he came home and the owners decided to send him to Adam to be shown. This was his first show! The Ridden Champion was the lead rein winner Anne Brown's Browan Prelude with reserve the Connemara Kirtle Noble Fir owned by Miss W Heller and Ridden by Robert Pink. We are very grateful to our judges, Colin Davies who had a very long morning judging the Welsh in Hand classes, Emma Kelly who judged the M&M and other classes in Ring 2 and Jinx Bryer who judged the ridden classes in the afternoon. Also the ring stewards Kirsty and Jenny and Brendan who helped with the late entries. Many apologies to Joshua Warren who I missed out of the thank you’s for the 2009 Foal Show held at the Conquest Centre. ------------------------------------------------------- WELL DONE Stuart and Anne FRANKLIN of the South West's SARUM Stud !!!
Royal Welsh Showground The 22nd Welsh National Foal Show organised by the Brecon and Borders Welsh Pony and Cob Association, the largest number of entries in one class being the 58 section A filly foals. Reserve supreme, after winning her class of 58 entries of which 34 were present, was Stewart and Ann Franklin’s grey section A filly foal Sarum Romance produced by Adam Fletcher. Romance is sired by the Dutch-bred Vechtzicts Hywel who was male champion at the 2005 Royal Welsh Show and Romance is his first foal in this country. This was Romance’s third championship in three weeks which is not surprising since she is a real little “show-off”. Her dam Cledwyn Red Rose has produced a string of champions for the Sarum Stud.
